It Was For Love

It Was For Love

It Was For Love

It Was For Love

I ask her if she’s happy in her work

and she says yes, for 32 years.

One year away from a teaching degree in England,

she came to the states one summer and

never left. American greed will get ya, I say.

Or love—she says.

She warms my coffee, my eggs and toast

satisfy as if served at a five-star restaurant.

I mention I want to write about her.

Fine, she says. Just don’t forget to say

It was for love.
